Watch MGMT’s self-directed video for new single “In the Afternoon”

It’s their first release since going independent.

MGMT have shared a trippy video for their new single, “In the Afternoon.”

The self-directed clip opens with track information on the bottom-left corner, a homage to music videos from the ’90s, before jumping into a psychedelic trip of footage. Bursts of kaleidoscopic color are projected onto the duo as they perform, mixed with warped images and scenes of static.

“In the Afternoon” is MGMT’s first release since leaving their longtime label, Columbia Records. “This is the first-ever totally independent release for MGMT,” the band shared on their Bandcamp page. “A DIY affair all the way down to the video! As usual and by design these songs may discompose emotionally sensitive constitutions. Please consume with caution.”

The duo’s last studio album, Little Dark Age, arrived in February 2018. Watch the video for “In the Afternoon” here:
