IDLES have released a video for their song “Model Village,” directed by Michel Gondry of The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame.
On the infectious stomper, the English rock band skewer insular small town reality—and the people who make it so suffocating. “I hated growing up in a city that was really a town that was really a fishbowl,” frontman Joe Talbot said of the inspiration behind the song. “I left as soon as I could, only to realise the fishbowl didn’t exist… just the fish, and they’re everywhere.”
“Model Village,” which appears on their upcoming album Ultra Mono on September 25 alongside previous single “Grounds,” received a vibrant video treatment directed by brothers Michel and Olivier Gondry. Though Michel is best known for his feature films, he’s also collaborated with numerous artists on music videos. He’s worked with Daft Punk and The White Stripes, and also directed The Chemical Brothers’ famous video for “Star Guitar” with Olivier in 2003.
