Watch American Football perform at NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’

With the help of a children’s choir.

Acclaimed emo outfit American Football recently stopped by the NPR office to play a set for the Tiny Desk concert series.

The band performed “Every Wave to Ever Rise,” “Uncomfortably Numb” and “Heir Apparent” from their newest album, American Football (LP3). With dreamy guitars, frontman Mike Kinsella’s evocative vocals and twinkling vibraphones, it was a set befitting American Football’s understated brand of Midwest emo.

The band were assisted by Pure Bathing Culture’s Sarah Versprille, who contributed backing vocals to “Every Wave to Ever Rise” and sang a verse on “Uncomfortably Numb,” which originally features Paramore’s Hayley Williams. American Football also enlisted the help of the Children’s Chorus of Washington, whose members sang the coda of “Heir Apparent” while sporting paper crowns.
