Viagra Boys release raucous new song, “Girls & Boys”

From the Swedish post-punks’ new album, ‘Welfare Jazz.’

Swedish post-punk band Viagra Boys have released the new song “Girls & Boys,” the latest teaser of their upcoming album Welfare Jazz.

Frontman Sebastian Murphy lets loose over a cacophony of danceable drums, churning guitars and noodling saxophone. “(Boys) They never wanna leave me alone / (Girls) They want me to pick up my phone / (Boys) Stay out all night, don’t go home / (Girls) They’ll make me feel I’m all alone,” he growls.

Welfare Jazz will be the Stockholm band’s second album, following their 2018 debut Street Worms. Last March, they released the Common Sense EP.

“We wrote these songs at a time when I had been in a long-term relationship, taking drugs every day, and being an asshole,” Murphy said of the album in a statement, per Pitchfork. “I didn’t really realize what an asshole I was until it was too late, and a lot of the record has to do with coming to terms with the fact that I’d set the wrong goals for myself.”
