Van Morrison shares bluesy new single, “Dark Night of the Soul”

A taste of his forthcoming album, ‘Three Chords and the Truth.’

Van Morrison has released “Dark Night of the Soul,” a preview of his upcoming album Three Chords and the Truth.

On the single, the 74-year-old singer showcases his buttery vocals over groovy guitar melodies and bluesy piano chords. “Something else don’t stop that longing / Or something new or something old / I’m on my way to understanding / Things that I might never not know / In the dark night of the soul,” he sings. The song borrows its title from Spanish poet John of the Cross’s poem of the same name.

Three Chords and the Truth arrives October 25 via Exile/Caroline International. The record will feature guitarist and longtime collaborator Jay Berliner. The tracklist also includes a duet with Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers.
