Tom Morello, Gary Clark Jr take risks on “Can’t Stop the Bleeding”

    Gramatik gives the track its EDM twist.

    Rage Against the Machine and Prophets of Rage axeman Tom Morello has released a new song, “Can’t Stop the Bleeding,” which features contributions by blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr and—in a surprising twist—Slovenian producer Gramatik.

    Morello and Clark dole out the licks for the first half of the track, setting up what you think will remain a crunchy rock-meets-blues collaboration. Halfway through, Gramatik sets up an airy drop aided by Clark’s guitarwork, before choppy dubstep synths usher in a mesmerizing breakdown.

    In a statement, Morello called the track a “Marshall stack bass drop banger,” and listed an eclectic and light-hearted list of its inspirations: “WB Yeats, Jimi Hendrix and terrified Ultra fans.”

    The Yeats reference becomes clear in the accompanying animated video, which quotes extensively from the Irish poet’s famous work, “The Second Coming.” Watch it here:
