The Strokes have announced The New Abnormal, their first album in seven years, by releasing brand-new single “At the Door.”
The keyboard-driven track arrived with a video, directed by Mike Burakoff, that leans on the animation style of the ’80s (think He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats). It follows abstract storylines ranging from a boy’s brush with the reaper to interstellar rituals and rabbits fleeing from a mutated furry fiend.
The New Abnormal was produced by Rick Rubin and will be The Strokes’ first LP since 2013’s Comedown Machine. The New York rockers officially announced the new release following their Monday performance at an election rally for US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire.
The Strokes had previously confirmed that their new album would arrive in 2020 at a New Year’s Eve show in Brooklyn, where they also played other unreleased songs “Ode to the Mets” and “The Adults are Talking.”
The band have also announced an intimate show at London’s Roundhouse on February 19, with presale priority going to fans who preorder their new album now. The New Abnormal will be released on April 10 via RCA Records.
