Fresh off their comeback show in Nashville last week, The Raconteurs have released a hard-hitting take on Donovan’s “Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness).”
The rework is a sauntering jazz rock-esque tune that features sizzling riffs, pounding drums and a fiery harmonica outro. Jack White and co’s approach to the ’60s classic exudes a certain old-school rock ’n’ roll romanticism.
The cover was released in conjunction with the launch of Third Man Records’ Bandcamp page. The label, which was founded by White, has made records from Margo Price, Sleep and Lillie Mae available for purchase on the music retail platform, alongside the Raconteurs sophomore effort, Consolers of the Lonely.
“Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness)” is the latest track off the band’s first full-length in over a decade, Help Us Stranger, which arrives June 21. They previously dropped the tracks “Sunday Driver” and “Now That You’re Gone” from the record.
