The Melvins have just dropped “Embrace the Rub,” the second single from their upcoming album, Pinkus Abortion Technician.
The brash, grungy number pays homage to the legendary band’s hardcore punk roots. Frontman Buzz Osborne barks over furious licks and an aggressive piano run, while two bassists—Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald and Jeff Pinkus—lay down the low-end.
“’Embrace the Rub’ is a Steven McDonald-penned punker tune throwback to his days as a young Hawthorne, California punk hanging out with Black Flag,” said drummer Dale Crover. “For some reason, I decided that this tune really needed a piano part.”
Pinkus Abortion Technician is the band’s 22nd studio album, and will drop on April 20.
