English indie rockers The Cribs have collaborated with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth on the new song “I Don’t Know Who I Am.”

The Cribs last collaborated with Ranaldo on the 2007 song “Be Safe,” which they performed together in a lockdown live session in June. The new track came together in a similar manner to “Be Safe,” The Cribs said in a statement: “We had a recording of a long, improvised noise-jam which we then tried to refine into a more cohesive song structure. Due to the similarities in the writing process, it made us think of Lee again…

“We had initially requested that he play noise guitar over the track, because we wanted to keep it somewhat abstract and create the impression of the melodies just kind of emerging out of the static… But he went beyond the call of duty and also added some beautiful vocal harmonies too, out at the Sonic Youth studio in New Jersey.”

“I Don’t Know Who I Am” is taken from The Cribs’ eighth album, Night Network, the follow-up to their 2017 record 24-7 Rock Star Shit. The new LP is out November 13. Watch the video for The Cribs’ latest below:
