Superorganism get abducted by aliens in video for “Night Time”

The indie band combine dank memes and pop culture in an epileptic, far-out video that’s as quirky as the group themselves.

If The Polyphonic Spree linked up with The Flaming Lips to record a retro arcade game soundtrack, the end result still wouldn’t be as wacky as Superorganism. And you’d only have to check out the eight-piece indie pop outfit’s latest video, for “Night Time,” to see that for yourself.

The clip for the earworm of a tune, which is off the band’s self-titled debut album, is nothing less than a cosmic trip into the furthest reaches of the imagination. Eight-bit video games, space-surfing whales, silver-skinned aliens and V A P O R W A V E aesthetics collide in a kaleidoscopic montage. Yep, it’s an acid trip of a video.

Not to take away from the song itself. “Night Time” drops a bouncy, twee AF beat and buzzing basslines under Orono Noguchi’s slacker drawl—and everything melds together in a tune that’s as colorful as the clip itself.
