Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks has shared the new solo single “Show Them the Way,” which features none other than Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums.
“Show Them the Way,” which was produced by Greg Kurstin and is Nicks’ first solo single in six years, is a story-driven ballad that calls for help from up above to carve a future for the world. Nicks wrote the song in 2008 after a vivid dream in which she met and interacted with a slew of political icons.
In a statement, Nicks recounted the dream: “I was invited to a party to play piano and sing a few songs. It was a benefit. There were political people there. It felt really important. I was just the piano player, the voice, part of their dream. I wrote the poem the next day and the music the day after that. I never recorded it until now. I felt that this was its time, its reason… I hope that this song and its words will be seen as a prayer: a prayer for our country [and] a prayer for our world.”
The music video for “Show Them the Way” was directed by Almost Famous’ Cameron Crowe, who selected powerful images from the history of the United States to accompany Nick’s prayer for the future. Watch it here:
