Star-studded line-up joins Dave Grohl for first live airing of “Play”

Greg Kurstin, Alain Johannes and Chris Chaney, among others, performed the epic with him.

This past weekend, Dave Grohl performed his 23-minute-long song, “Play,” live for the first time. A formidable line-up of musicians, including members of Them Crooked Vultures and Jane’s Addiction, helped him bring the song to life.

Greg Kurstin, Alain Johannes, Jason Falkner, Barrett Jones, Chris Chaney and Drew Hester all joined the Foo Fighters man for the performance at Gov’t Mule singer Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam in Asheville, North Carolina.

“Play” is a prog rock epic whose making Grohl charted in a documentary released this past summer. He personally played all seven instruments on the song, including a Fender Rhodes, vibraphone and timpani.
