Sleater-Kinney declare “The Future is Here” on brand-new single

A peek into their ninth studio LP.

Sleater-Kinney have released “The Future is Here,” a cut from their upcoming record, The Center Won’t Hold.

On the track, the trio set aside their usual brand of snappy, ferocious punk rock for a mellower, goth-influenced anthem about human connection. St Vincent—aka Annie Clark—produced the song, as well as the rest of The Center Won’t Hold.

“If there is an overarching principle to this album, it’s that the tools on which we were relying proved inadequate,” Carrie Brownstein told NPR earlier this year. “So we sought new ones, both metaphorically and literally.”

The Center Won’t Hold, which also includes “Hurry on Home,” will be Sleater-Kinney’s newest studio album since 2015’s critically acclaimed No Cities to Love. It is set to arrive on August 16 via Mom+Pop Music.
