Sheryl Crow has linked up with two legends, soul singer Mavis Staples and country icon Bonnie Raitt, on her new single, “Live Wire.”
On paper, the track might seem like a crowded affair, but the three veterans trade lines and harmonize like only pros can. The swampy, blues-influenced track features Raitt’s signature slide guitar and Staples’ soulful husky vocals, while Crow slides in between her two guest artists with her acoustic guitar contributions and country swing.
“[Staples and Raitt] may as well be sisters from a different mother,” Crow said to Entertainment Weekly. “First of all, they’re very close and Mavis has inspired Bonnie in so many ways. And both those women have been a huge inspiration for me.”
“Live Wire” is the second single from Crow’s forthcoming album Threads, following last month’s “Redemption Day” rework, featuring the late Johnny Cash. The record is said to be the singer’s last full-length project—but not to worry, she still intends to make more music.
