Sharon Van Etten releases passionate new single, “Jupiter 4”

Along with a video summed up in the phrase “apocalyptic mom.”

Sharon Van Etten is readying her new album, Remind Me Tomorrow, for release in January, and she’s just dropped a new video for the song “Jupiter 4.”

The video continues the shadowy aesthetic Van Etten introduced in the clip for the first single, “Comeback Kid,” but takes it to a more ominous place. Directed by Katherine Dieckmann, the video follows Van Etten in a variety of lush, natural settings—floating on her back in a lake, seated in a field of flowers, lying in a field and more. It’s a gorgeously haunting visual to match an intense song that channels the likes of Zola Jesus and Daughter.

Van Etten and Dieckmann met in 2016, when the musician scored the latter’s film, Strange Weather. According to a press statement, Van Etten asked Dieckmann if she would shoot a music video for her with an “apocalyptic mom” theme, and the director agreed immediately. “That’s why I love her so much,” Van Etten said.
