Guitar virtuoso John Mayer has shared a glimpse into his creative process with a video for his latest song, “Carry Me Away.”

Fans who loved the pensive mood of Mayer’s earlier single “I Guess I Just Feel Like” will find much to love about “Carry Me Away.” A sense of listlessness permeates the new song, as he sings, “I’m such a bummer, there must be more behind the summer / I want someone to make some trouble, been way too safe inside my bubble.”

In an Instagram post, Mayer revealed that he wrote “Carry Me Away” while on a two-week break. “My desires for vacation were simple: to live in shorts and a t-shirt and play with my dog in the sun and live a simple happy normal life, all while writing this song I had swirling around in my head,” he explained.

The accompanying music video offers a look at how “Carry Me Away” came together, from its early beginnings as a demo mumbled from a couch, to a recording tracked and polished in a professional studio.
