Rain Phoenix, Michael Stipe dance together in new music video

For “Time is the Killer,” off Phoenix’s new three-song release, ‘Time Gone.’

Rain Phoenix has released a video for her debut solo single, “Time is the Killer,” which features Michael Stipe, formerly of REM. The duo sing together and dance giddily on the street in the tender visual.

“Time is the Killer” is about “impermanence, our futile attempts at avoiding it and the bittersweet outcome of everything changing all the time,” Phoenix told Rolling Stone earlier this year. The song leads the new release Time Gone, which also comprises “Where I’d Gone” and “Scales & Fishnails.”

Phoenix had originally written the latter two songs with her brother River, the cult teen actor who died in 1993, as the band Aleka’s Attic. She had mixed the two songs in the ’90s, but “felt compelled and driven to” put them out now, Phoenix told RS. “I can’t explain it except to say the time feels right.”
