Marilyn Manson, X Japan join forces on “Sweet Dreams” cover

At Coachella, the Japanese legends and American shock rocker perform a stripped-down cover of the Eurythmics favorite.

You no longer need to travel the world (and the seven seas) to see X Japan combine forces with Marilyn Manson. Over at Coachella this past weekend, Manson teamed up with X Japan’s Yoshiki to deliver a stripped-down cover of Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”

Before a screaming live audience, Yoshiki lays down the iconic melody on a piano to set the stage for Manson’s unmistakable, operatic vocals. It’s haunting, melodramatic and just a little grandiose, but watching two legends of modern rock grace the same stage is awe-inspiring.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Manson covered “Sweet Dreams.” He included a grim version of the tune on his 1995 EP, Smells Like Children, that propelled him to mainstream success.
