Indie rock’s latest obsession, Soccer Mommy (real name: Sophie Allison), has just announced a new seven-inch. In anticipation of the release, she’s released a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire,” which will appear on the record alongside a revised version of her 2016 song, “Henry.”
Adding her lo-fi indie rock touch and wispy vocals to the Boss’ 1985 hit, Allison transforms the slow-burning rock tune into a melancholic dream. It’s equal parts emotional and sensual, filled with soft guitar strums.
“I wanted to make a version of ‘I’m on Fire’ that connected with the sadness of the song,” the singer-songwriter said in a statement. “I think that doing a more stripped-down version allowed me to make something that feels emotionally raw.”
The seven-inch drops on October 5 via Fat Possum. Pre-order your copy here.
