Listen to psych rock supergroup Anywhere’s new album

Former members of The Mars Volta, Nirvana and Melvins combine to raucous effect on ‘Anywhere II.’

In true hipster style, Anywhere dropped their third record, Anywhere II, on Record Store Day—wax only. Luckily for us who don’t own turntables, the psych rock band have released the album on streaming services. And it was worth the wait.

While Christian Eric Beaulieu and Cedric Bixler Zavala, formerly of The Mars Volta, are the main actors in Anywhere, they brought along a bunch of pals for Anywhere II. Ex-Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Melvins’ Dale Crover, Sleepy Sun and even model Naima Mora are on hand to accompany Anywhere on their psychedelic trip.

The ten-tracker brings together Eastern instrumentation and passages, West Coast swagger, and all the barn-shaking riffs of The 13th Floor Elevators into one hypnotic package. Standout track “Astrophysical Graffiti” takes the Led Zeppelin reference and runs with it all the way to outer space—and you gotta love that John Bonham-inspired battery.
