Listen to Japanese Breakfast cover The Cranberries

Michelle Zauner delivers a rousing, shoegaze-y rendition of “Dreams” as part of the Spotify Singles series.

The Cranberries’ “Dreams” is one of those undying tracks that musicians just ❤ to cover. Japanese Breakfast, aka Michelle Zauner, isn’t any different. Earlier this week, the indie musician used her Spotify Singles session to record a live cover of the song.

At first blush, her version doesn’t sound that much different from the original. But a closer listen will reveal shoegaze-y atmospheres and jangly guitar work à la The Sundays. And that’s not even mentioning Zauner’s murmuring, reed-thin vocals that will send chills down your back.

It isn’t the first time she’s took on “Dreams,” though. The track has featured in many of her gigs, but here we finally have a polished cut. Listen to the cover, along with a live performance of “Road Head,” here:
