Listen to Brittany Howard’s debut solo album, ‘Jaime’

The Alabama Shakes’ frontwoman strikes out on her own.

Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has released her debut solo album, Jaime.

The self-produced 11-track album was written entirely by Howards, with the exception of the “Tomorrow” (co-written with Paul Horton) and “13th Century Metal” (co-written with Nate Smith and Robert Glasper). The record also features the singles “He Loves Me” and “History Repeats.” Howard previously released a video for “Stay High” starring Terry Crews.

The title of the album is a tribute to Howard’s late sister, who died of cancer as a teenager. Her work on the record doubled as a “process of healing” for the singer, she previously wrote in a statement posted on Alabama Shakes’ Twitter account. “Every song, I confront something within me or beyond me. Things that are hard or impossible to change, words and music to describe what I’m not good at conveying to those I love,” she added.
