King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released a fiery visual for their latest track “Self-Immolate.”
In the John Stewart-directed clip, the band get set on fire by an arson dressed in a yellow raincoat. Departing from their usual psychedelic tones, King Gizzard explore thrash metal sounds on the new track as singer and band leader Stu Mackenzie deliver tight vocals over the outfit’s gargantuan metal riffs.
Of the song, the Australian band told radio station Triple J that they “were trying to do the heaviest [music possible].” “Take it to the next level of scariness and fastness than we’ve ever done before. We didn’t grow up making heavy metal so it comes from this different place than usual,” they added.
“Self-Immolate” is the latest taste from the band’s upcoming as-yet-titled album. The project will be the follow-up to April’s Fishing for Fishies which spawned a video for “Cyboogie.” They also recently released a video for another thrash metal single, “Planet B.”
