Jay Som, Palehound release first song as Bachelor

Hear “Anything at All,” a song about queerness, lust and longing.

Indie rockers Jay Som and Palehound have formed a new band Bachelor, sharing their debut single “Anything at All.”

Jay Som’s Melina Duterte and Palehound’s Ellen Kempner spent the start of 2020 writing and recording Bachelor material in California. “Anything at All” slinks along on a funk-styled bassline, bursting into shimmering choruses loaded with twinkling piano and fuzzy guitars. According to the two musicians, the lyrics of “Anything at All” are inspired by queerness, lust and longing.

“We’re so excited to finally share this song with y’all and announce our new band!” the duo said in a statement. “We’ve been dear friends and huge fans of each other for years and were lucky enough to get to work together in January 2020 before quarantine. We feel that ‘Anything at All’ is an even blend of our tastes and writing styles and to release it feels very hopeful and joyous to us.”

Jay Som’s most recent album Anak Ko arrived in 2019, the same year Palehound released her third album Black Friday. The latter musician recently announced a concert for April 1 on Bandcamp Live to celebrate the one-year anniversary of her cancelled Black Friday North American tour.
