Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan steps out with “Rare Thing”

The lead single of her debut solo album, ‘Likewise.’

Frances Quinlan of the Philadelphia band Hop Along has released “Rare Thing,” the lead single of her forthcoming debut solo album, Likewise.

Quinlan’s bandmates in Hop Along—guitarist Joe Reinhart, bassist Tyler Long and drummer Mark Quinlan—play on “Rare Thing,” while Mary Lattimore plays harp. “I know there is love that doesn’t have to do with taking something from somebody / Well, so much for me,” Quinlan sings on the chorus, her voice tinged with wry hopefulness.

Hop Along’s last album was 2018’s Bark Your Head Off, Dog. Likewise will be Quinlan’s first album under her own name, though she started Hop Along initially as a solo project called Hop Along, Queen Ansleis. The album is due out January 31, 2020 on Saddle Creek.
