Hear Whitney, Waxahatchee cover a John Denver classic

A lovely take on “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Chicago band Whitney have teamed up with Waxahatchee on a lovely cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Whitney singer-drummer Julien Ehrlich handles most of the meandering tune, though Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield takes the lead on a striking second verse. The Denver rendition was also accompanied by another cover of a very different song: “Rain” by ’90s New York R&B trio SWV.

Whitney’s last album Forever Turned Around, which featured the single “Giving Up,” was released last year. On the other hand, Waxahatchee put out the record Saint Cloud in March, led by the singles “Fire,” “Lilacs” and “Can’t Do Much.” Crutchfield also recently played a short acoustic set with her partner Kevin Morby, which included a Jason Molina cover.
