Weezer have returned with their 14th studio album, OK Human.
The band first announced the 12-track record last week with the single “All My Favorite Songs.” For the LP, the group took inspiration from the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and Randy Newman’s self-titled debut album.
The album was recorded during “the summer of COVID-19,” the band revealed on Twitter, noting that only analog technology, including a 38-piece orchestra, was used to make the album.
“All we could do is look back on ancient times when humans really mattered and when the dark tech-takeover fantasy didn’t exist,” they wrote. “We used our instruments to connect to the 1960s and 1970s and, with the orchestra, back to the 18th and 19th centuries. We had no click track or loops or hi-tech sounds. Not even an electric guitar.”
OK Human is the first of two full-length albums Weezer have planned for 2021. Their second, called Van Weezer, will arrive on May 7, after being pushed back from its original May 2020 release date.
