Hear The Strokes’ new album, ‘The New Abnormal’

Their first record since 2013’s ‘Comedown Machine.’

New York rock icons The Strokes have released a new album, The New Abnormal.

The Strokes’ first album in seven years, The New Abnormal casts back to the band’s classic Is This it-era songwriting, largely stepping away from their 2013 album Comedown Machine’s use of falsetto melodies and contrasting soundscapes.

In an interview with the Guardian, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr said that the making of The New Abnormal has left him excited about “the possibility of something even better later. What we could do next excites me more than I have been excited in, I don’t know, our whole career.”

The band had confirmed the LP’s release in a New Year’s Eve show in Brooklyn, where they also played album cuts “The Adults are Talking” and “Ode to the Mets.” They then officially previewed The New Abnormal with singles “At the Door” and “Bad Decisions.”

To support the release of their new LP, The Strokes debuted a new pirate radio show humorously titled 5 Guys Talking About Things They Know Nothing About. The show was initially intended as an unveiling of The New Abnormal, but quickly turned into an opportunity for fans to peer behind the curtain and witness the bands’ personalities at play. The first 17-minute episode is out now.
