Hear PJ Harvey’s chilling cover of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand”

From the ‘Peaky Blinders’ soundtrack.

PJ Harvey has contributed a haunting cover of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand” to the forthcoming soundtrack of the television show Peaky Blinders.

Where Cave’s booming 1994 original—which is the Peaky Blinders theme song—retains a sense of folksiness, Harvey’s slower, piano-driven rendition draws out the song’s deep sense of existential dread. Cave and Harvey had collaborated on a cover of the traditional folk song “Henry Lee” in 1996 and briefly dated around that time, giving this new cover an additional layer of intrigue.

The Peaky Blinders soundtrack collects 49 songs from the show’s five seasons, including tracks by Radiohead, Foals, Laura Marling, Joy Division, David Bowie and more. It arrives on November 15 and will also include Harvey’s original songs “To Bring You My Love” and “This is Love.”
