Hear Eddie Vedder rework Bruce Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up”

Off his surprise Christmas Day EP, ‘Matter of Time.’

Fans of Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen received a surprise gift this Christmas Day: a new EP from Vedder, Matter of Time, featuring an acoustic rendition of the Springsteen tune “Growin’ Up.”

The cover of the Greetings from Asbury, NJ cut lets the Pearl Jam frontman’s soulful drawl shine atop a minimal acoustic guitar accompaniment, while staying true to the jubilant energy of the original. “Well I stood stone-like at midnight suspended in my masquerade / And I combed my hair ’til it was just right and commanded the night brigade,” croons Vedder on the track.

The rendition dropped as part of a six-track record, Matter of Time, that opens with the title track “Matter of Time” and “Say Hi.” The opening tracks were previously released in November as part of a charity livestream in support of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) research. Matter of Time also includes acoustic covers of Pearl Jam tunes “Just Breathe,” “Future Days” and “Porch.”

This latest offering follows the release of Pearl Jam’s new single “Get it Back” in October. Springsteen, on the other hand, recently reunited with his iconic E Street Band on Saturday Night Live earlier this month, following a feature on Bleachers’ “Chinatown” in November.
