Angel Olsen has announced her new album Whole New Mess with the release of its haunting title track.
The upcoming album is a companion release to Olsen’s 2019 LP, the grandly orchestral All Mirrors. Most of the tracks on Whole New Mess are stripped-down, early iterations of the songs on All Mirrors—though they are not demos—and were recorded in a church-turned-recording studio in Anacortes, Washington, over the course of ten days.
“Whole New Mess” is one of two songs on the record that didn’t make it to All Mirrors. In a statement, Olsen said, “The song is a mental note to try and stay sane, keep healthy, remember to breathe wherever I happen to be, because there is no saving it for back home.”
Whole New Mess is due out August 28 on Jagjaguwar. Watch the video for the title track below:
