Green Day are back with uplifting new single, “Pollyanna”

“It’s a wonderful time to be alive!”

Green Day have released a new single, titled “Pollyanna.”

Released on May 17, the track is an uplifting rock ode full of the rockers’ signature power chords, complete with synth leads and whistling. “Rainy days and razor blades / I think it’s time to pull up the shades / It’s wonderful to be alive,” Billie Joe Armstrong sings.

“Pollyanna” is the pop punk icons’ second single of the year, following February’s “Here Comes The Shock”, which came with a music video packed with punk rock aerobics.

Green Day’s last album was 2020’s Father of All…, which spawned tracks including “Fire Ready Aim,” “Father of All…,” as well as the Joan Jett-sampling track, “Oh Yeah!.”

“Pollyanna” was announced alongside new dates for their previously planned pre-pandemic tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy. On the Hella Mega Tour, the three bands will play baseball stadiums across America.

Armstrong also spent 2020 on a cover series, No Fun Mondays. These included covers of “Kids in America” by Kim Wilde, and “That Thing You Do!” by Adam Schlesinger.
