Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes tap IDLES’ Joe Talbot for “My Town”

A pugnacious new collaboration.

IDLES frontman Joe Talbot has joined Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes on their new single “My Town.”

The ex-Gallows vocalist takes a pugnacious stance on “My Town,” sparring with Talbot over a fuzzy bassline and a processed beat. The music video thrusts both singers into a number of humorous green-screen scenes: while Talbot washes a car and steps in dog droppings, Carter works as a trash collector and throws out his most recent album End of Suffering in the process.

For Carter, being able to collaborate with Talbot was a dream come true. In an interview with NME, the singer revealed that he cried when he watched IDLES perform live for the first time.

“I just felt really fucking emotional. I don’t know what it was, whether it was just seeing a band that were cut from the same cloth as us,” Carter said. “When we play, it’s everything. We put everything into it. Every now and again you see a band, and you know in your heart that music has saved all of their lives. I can say that about IDLES with 100 percent fact. I feel the same way about me and the guys in Rattlesnakes.”

Carter also said that “My Town” is the first single to be cut from his upcoming album with the Rattlesnakes, telling NME that the band had written more music over the last year than they had ever done previously.

On the other hand, IDLES’ last album was Ultra Mono, released in September 2020. Earlier this year, the band covered Sharon Van Etten’s “Peace Signs.”
