Foals return with “Exits”

They’re releasing not one, but two new albums this year.

Foals have returned, four years after their last album, with “Exits.” It’s the groovy first single off their new album, Everything Not Saved Will be Lost—Part 1, one of two records the English rock band will deliver this year.

In an open letter to fans on Facebook, Foals described these new albums as “two halves of the same locket.” They added, “[The albums] can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces.”

“Musically, we pushed ourselves to the furthest limit,” the band wrote. “Lyrically, the songs resonate with what’s going on in the world at the moment. These songs are white flags, or mirrors, or attempts to work through the confusing times we live in… each in a different way.”

These records will be Foals’ first without former bassist Walter Gervers, who parted ways with them amicably last January to “pursue a new life,” the band had said in a note on Instagram. Gervers had been with Foals for 12 years.

Everything Not Saved Will be Lost—Part 1 is out on March 8. The second album is due out in fall.
