Fleetwood Mac perform “The Chain,” “Gypsy” on ‘Ellen’

With Lindsey Buckingham nowhere in sight.

In a rare televised appearance, Fleetwood Mac performed “The Chain” and “Gypsy” live on a recent episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The rapturously received performance was also the debut of Fleetwood Mac’s new line-up, put together after the firing of Lindsey Buckingham earlier this year. He was replaced by new guitarists Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (of Crowded House).

Buckingham had been fired over what drummer Mick Fleetwood called an “impasse” over the scheduling of a world tour, according to an April interview in Rolling Stone.

“This was not a happy situation for us in terms of the logistics of a functioning band,” Fleetwood continued. “To that purpose, we made a decision that we could not go on with him. Majority rules in term of what we need to do as a band and go forward.”

On Buckingham’s part, his departure “was not something that was really my doing or my choice,” he said after performing at a fundraiser. “I think what you would say is that there were factions within the band that had lost their perspective.”

In October, Fleetwood Mac will embark on an exhaustive tour of North America that will wind up in April 2019.
