Fall Out Boy surprise with new EP, ‘Lake Effect Kid’

The three-track EP is classic FoB.

It feels like only a minute ago that pop punk titans Fall Out Boy released their last album, Mania.  But the Illinois rockers are showing no signs of slowing down, as they’ve dropped a surprise EP, Lake Effect Kid.

Released to mark the group’s upcoming shows in their hometown of Chicago, the record features three tracks—and they’re all reminiscent of the old-school FoB sound. Its title track, a re-released 2008 demo, has been polished up and given some extra punch, while the song “Super Fade” hears frontman Patrick Stump crying “Chicago gets my soul!” over sledgehammer-heavy beats.

Even if you’re not a Chicago native, fans will find plenty to love about Lake Effect Kid. But, if you do hail from the Windy City, then here are three brand-new anthems to choose from.
