Ezra Furman drops two new singles from his album, ‘Twelve Nudes’

“I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend” and “Evening Prayer aka Justice” are out now.

Ezra Furman has released two singles from his upcoming LP Twelve Nudes: “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend” and “Evening Prayer aka Justice.”

Both tracks are strong follow-ups to the album’s first single, “Calm Down aka I Should Not Be Alone.” The heart-on-sleeve number “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend” plays out like the soundtrack to a slow dance at a disco, an impression its music video—which is set in an empty school auditorium—adds to.

“Evening Prayer aka Justice,” on the other hand, combines pop sensibility with a healthy dose of lo-fi aggression. “It’s our rallying cry,” Furman explained in a press release. “We music fans go to shows for transcendence; it’s like being called to prayer. But as Abraham Heschel said, ‘Prayer is meaningless unless it is subversive, unless it seeks to overthrow and to ruin the pyramids of callousness, hatred, opportunism and falsehood.’”

Twelve Nudes is set for release on August 30 via Bella Union. Watch the video for “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend”:
