Eels release new single off forthcoming album

True to form, “Premonition” manages to invoke hope in the face of desolation—in the span of only three minutes.

Before their new LP hits the shelves, Eels have released a single from it, “Premonition.” Dropped yesterday, the track bears Mark Everett’s stamp all over: It’s equal parts bleak and optimistic, with nothing by way of instrumentation to dilute its raw emotion.

“You can kill or be killed / But the sun’s gonna shine / You and I have a love / That never can die,” drawls E, his voice on the brink of break-up. A gently plucked guitar and cooing chorus are his only accompaniments, giving the tune even more feels.

The new Eels album, The Deconstruction, is due out on April 6. The album’s title track was released in January—and you can check that out below, too.
