Deep Purple drop new song, “Throw My Bones”

The lead single from the band’s upcoming album, ‘Whoosh!’

English rock veterans Deep Purple have returned from an almost three-year silence with “Throw My Bones,” the lead single from their forthcoming album Whoosh!.

The accompanying music video follows an astronaut as he explores the world, observing people as they go about their daily lives. “All I’ve got is what I need / The bets are off, as far as I can see / Why should I walk into the great unknown / When I can sit here, and throw my bones?” frontman Ian Gillan sings on the chorus.

In a press release, Gillian described the album’s title as “an onomatopoeic word that, when viewed through one end of a radio-telescope, describes the transient nature of humanity on Earth; and, through the other end from a closer perspective, illustrates the career of Deep Purple.”

Whoosh!, the follow-up to Deep Purple’s 2017 album Infinite, arrives on June 21. Watch the video for “Throw My Bones” here:
