Death Cab for Cutie release new song, “Gold Rush”

The band also reveal details of their long-awaited upcoming LP.

After weeks of teasing, Death Cab for Cutie have finally shared more details of their forthcoming album. Titled Thank You for Today, the LP follows their most recent album Kintsugi, which arrived in 2015. The record will feature ten brand-new songs, one of which is “Gold Rush.”

Released alongside the album announcement, “Gold Rush” gives fans the first full preview of what to expect from their ninth studio album. In an interview with Radio.com, frontman Ben Gibbard revealed that the track samples Yoko Ono’s “Mind Train” and is an homage to Gibbard’s hometown of Seattle.

You are very aware of the passage of time in a way that you weren’t necessarily before because the setting for that time in your life has disappeared. ‘Gold Rush’ is a song about how we connect our memories to physical places,” he said.
