Elena Tonra, the singer and lead songwriter of Daughter, has released her self-titled debut solo album as Ex:Re.

Though Ex:Re is a breakup album, it’s more complicated than that, Tonra says. “Although the record is written for someone, a lot of the time it’s about the space without that person in it. In every scenario, there’s either the person in memory or the noticeable absence of that person in the present moment,” she said in a statement.

“I suppose it is a breakup record, however I do not talk about the relationship at all, and he hardly features in the scenes. He is only felt as a ghostly presence.”

Daughter released their second album, Not to Disappear, back in 2016, and followed it up last year with Music From Before the Storm, a soundtrack to multi-award winning video game Life is Strange.
