Cage the Elephant collaborate with Beck on “Night Running”

The prospective tourmates drop a song together.

Cage the Elephant have released “Night Running,” a collaboration with Beck that’s equal parts worthy single and well-timed marketing strategy—after all, they’ll be embarking on a co-headlining US tour in July.

For the latest single from their forthcoming album, Social Cues, Cage the Elephant dig in on the late-night mood of Brit rock. Lead singer Matt Shultz dominates the verses with a brooding, almost rap-like delivery, while Beck shies away from the limelight, holding down the backing melodies.

Despite the new album largely leaning on Shultz’s burgeoning scepticism in the wake of his recent divorce, “Night Running” feels like an exception to the rule. As the frontman revealed to NME, this single was the bane of guitarist Brad Shultz’s existence for some time—until Beck filled in what had been missing.
