Brittany Howard shares new song, “13th Century Metal”

Her solo album, ‘Jaime,’ arrives Friday.

Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has dropped “13th Century Metal,” the latest offering from her upcoming solo album Jaime.

“13th Century Metal” arrived with footage of Howard and her backing band performing the track in a live session. The video showcases acclaimed keyboardist Robert Glasper and renowned drummer Nate Smith, who both play on Jaime.

In the clip, Howard clutches onto a lyric sheet, her spoken-word style delivery ringing out over groovy drum patterns and tantalizing keys. “I am a master student and my spirit will never be stomped out / I am dedicated to oppose those whose will is to divide us and who are determined to keep us in the dark ages of fear,” she proclaims.

Howard previously dropped the tracks “History Repeats” and “He Loves Me.” She also released a video for album cut “Stay High,” starring the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Terry Crews. Jaime drops this Friday via ATO.
