Bob Dylan makes rare TV appearance on ‘Fallon’

The pair sip whiskey while surveying a circus act.

Bob Dylan made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this past Thursday.

In the two-minute-long sketch, scored to Erik Satie’s “Gymnopédie No 1,” the pair sit in a lush theatre as they watch a private routine performed by trapeze artists from the Big Apple Circus.

Over the course of this wordless act, they share a glass of Dylan’s newly released Heaven’s Door Whiskey, while Fallon occasionally, awkwardly applauds. At some point, Fallon finds himself alone. He questions if Dylan was ever with him, wondering, “What was in that whiskey?”

It’s an odd bit that has left audiences bemused. Dylan doesn’t just have alcohol to promote, though. Earlier this month, he released the 14th installment of his Bootleg Series, a collection of alternate takes from the recording sessions that yielded 1975’s Blood on the Tracks. The Nobel Laureate will also soon embark on a seven-night residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre.
