Singer-songwriter Bill Callahan, who’s releasing a new album in September, has shared a second preview in “Another Song.”
The new track begins at an ambling pace, warm and slightly melancholic—but closes with Callahan repeating its title over ominous instrumentation, taking it into a darker space. The song, Callahan’s label Drag City notes, is “a working man’s blues that are lightened by a little love in the afternoon. In the middle of the day, uninspired and back at his homestead for lunch, the narrator decides to take the rest of the day off for some afternoon delight with his partner. In loving embrace and then philosophic reverie, they look forward only to the next moment as sweet as this one.”
“Another Song” is the second track out so far from Callahan’s upcoming album, which has a similarly on-the-nose title: Gold Record. It comes just a year after his last full-length release, Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest.
Callahan will be releasing a new song from Gold Record every week until its full release on September 4. Stream “Another Song” here:
