Battles have shared two new tracks, “A Loop So Nice…” and “They Played it Twice,” off their forthcoming album Juice B Crypts.
Battles, now a duo after bassist Dave Konopka left last year, build on a trepidatious keyboard melody on “A Loop So Nice…” with crisp drumming and eerie synths. On the other hand, “They Played it Twice” features vocals from Xenia Rubinos, who sings over taut bass grooves and drizzling electronic beats.
“It’s about chord progressions, resolutions, returning home,” guitarist-keyboardist Ian Williams said of the album in a press release. “Take that and throw it into a blender of modern electronic tools like glitching devices, or use melodic lines and take them and regurgitate them and pulverise the traditional stuff but at the same time try and retain harmonic relationships while completely smashing them up.”
Battles previously dropped the track “Titanium 2 Step,” which featured Sal Principato of Liquid Liquid. Juice B Crypts will arrive October 18 via Warp.
