American musician Angel Olsen has released a beautiful new video for “Lark,” the latest single from her upcoming album All Mirrors.
“‘Lark’ is a song that took many years to finish. The disjointed feelings and verses of this song began to make sense as a way for me to exercise a kind of journey through grieving, a kind of personal struggle,” Olsen explained in a statement.
“The message of the song developed at first from an argument I once had with someone about trust and support. Later, I pulled from recurring themes in my life as a musician and as a human that dreams for a living. It’s easy to promise the world to those we love, but what about when our dreams change and values split?”
“Lark” captures the downward spiral from argument to inevitable fracture as dramatic strings burst in and out of the track with frenzy. Its video was produced in collaboration with director Ashley Connor, who also helmed the video for the record’s title track. The clip finds Olsen in different settings—fields, hills, beaches, intimate lounge rooms—as she acts out the anguish that the song expresses.
All Mirrors is due out October 4 via Jagjaguwar. Watch the “Lark” video below:
