Alison Mosshart drops solo song, “It Ain’t Water”

The Dead Weather and The Kills member steps out.

Alison Mosshart of The Kills and The Dead Weather has released her second solo track, “It Ain’t Water.”

Mosshart recorded the smoky ballad with Queens of the Stone Age and PJ Harvey collaborator Alain Johannes, whom she praised in a statement as “such a talent and such a kind person.” The track arrived with a decidedly homemade video in which Mosshart dances around her house, toying with a hat and picking up her guitar.

“It Ain’t Water” follows Mosshart’s previous solo single “Rise,” which she began writing in 2013. Though Mosshart is best known for her work in the bands The Kills and The Dead Weather, she’s been accumulating unreleased solo music for over a decade.

Both “It Ain’t Water” and “Rise” will receive a 7-inch release on Domino, due out July 31. Watch the video for Mosshart’s latest below:
