Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has announced her upcoming debut solo album, Jaime, alongside the release of the LP’s lead single “History Repeats.”

Funky, swirling and hazy, the track is a reflection from Howard on—as the title suggests—how history repeats itself. “I just don’t want to be back in this place again / I mean, I done cried a little, tried a little, failed a little / I don’t wanna do it again / Do you feel me?” she sings.

In a statement posted on the Alabama Shakes’ Twitter account, Howard said that she “wrote this record as a process of healing.” “Every song, I confront something within me or beyond me. Things that are hard or impossible to change, words and music to describe what I’m not good at conveying to those I love,” she continued.

The title of the album, Jaime, is a tribute to Howard’s late sister, who died of cancer as a teenager. The record is due out September 20 via ATO Records.
